After reading (UC)LA Times Reporter Bill Dwyre's article entitled "Paterno missed cue from Wooden" on Tuesday, January 23, 2012, I agree with and disagree with Mr. Dwyre's premises.

Yes, John Wooden's legacy was more or less untarnished because he out-lived Sam Gilbert. Whereas, Joe Paterno's legacy has been tarnished, and there is no chance to redeem himself since he passed away before Jerry Sandusky.

In disagreement, The (UC)LA Times has not wanted to tarnish John Wooden's legacy over all these years. How? Only one investigative article pertaining to Sam Gilbert was published in the (UC)LA Times after Coach Wooden passed away. Then, nothing more. Why? The (UC)LA Times wants to keep UCLA's image pure.

What if Coach Wooden was a Trojan, not a Bruin?

The (UC)LA Times Monday, 12/12/2011 "THE DAY IN SPORTS" section has NO HEADLINE for the USC Women's Volleyball Team. The Women of Troy beat the Pepperdine Women 3-2 in Hawaii to advance to the Final Four.

Where is the HEADLINE for USC?

Sunday's 12/11/2011 (UC)LA Times gave the UCLA Lady Bruin's Volleyball team another headline. In the ETC. section, the headline read, "UCLA advances to final four." There was a mention that "The Trojans advanced late Friday night with a 3-2 victory against Hawaii 19-25, 29-27, 19-25, 25-23, 15-12."

The USC victory over Hawaii on Friday, 12/10/2011, deserved better coverage. The victory was thrilling to the last set. Alex Jupiter, the 2011 Pac-12 Conference Player of the Year, registered 33 kils and 26 digs in the victory! Her name was never mentioned in the blurb. Her picture, unlike UCLA's Rachel Kidder's on Saturday, 12/10/2011, was not printed.

Perhaps, the (UC)LA Times can redeem itself from its UCLA BIAS, and write a decent article that USC defeated Pepperdine on Saturday 12/11/2011 to advance to the Final Four.

Could there even be a USC HEADLINE?

Monday's 12/5/11 (UC)LA Times sports page gave NO HEADLINE to the USC Men's Water Polo Team when they defeated UCLA to win their history making 4th consecutive NCAA Water Polo title!

WHY? Because the (UC)LA Times is always BIASED for UCLA over USC!

Why is USC Beat Reporter Gary Klein being punished?

Sunday's 11/13/11 front page sports section featured a color picture of a losing UCLA football team and article. Gary Klein's article about USC's victory over Washington is nowhere on the front page.

I attended the USC football victory over Minnesota yesterday. I did not hear the "thousands of boos" protesting the "two-point madness" that (UC)LA Times sports reporter Bill Plaschke heard. As he wrote in his article this morning, Sunday 9/4/2011, that the Trojans showed the "arrogance that knocked this program to its knees" by attempting two two-point conversions that failed, I disagree! The players did indeed FIGHT ON for their victory!

Perhaps, Mr. Plaschke's statement "As I walked down through the stands to the sidelines at the start of that last push, even ushers were shouting to me about it" (the two two-point conversion failures), misinterpreted "To Whom the Boos Tolled"!

The Trojan fans were booing you, Bill Plaschke, for your blatant love of UCLA and for your arrogance, your sarcasm, your mean-spirited opinions, and your bully attitude toward USC!

The front page of the (UC)LA Times sports page on Monday, August 29, 2011 featured a color picture of two Bruins and an article entitled "Vanilla Shakeout" by Chris Foster.

The front page of the (UC)LA Times sports page on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 featured a color picture of one Trojan and an article entitled "Primal Scheme" by Gary Klein.

That's where the equality in coverage ends!

There is NO "USC FYI" article on Monday.

The Bruin's Monday page C3 was all in COLOR.

On Tuesday's front page, the Bruins got a COLOR "Season Opener" reminder.

After reading (UC)LA Times reporter Ben Bolch's front page article this morning entitled "A DELIBERATE PROCESS", I wonder if the NCAA will sanction UCLA? Mr. Bolch's article was definitely biased for UCLA over any other university that is recruiting Shabazz Muhammad, the top basketball player in the class of 2012.

Is it legal for UCLA to have the (UC)LA Times recruit for them?

Mr. Bolch should take his own advice, that he wrote as a title for his article.

Not only is the (UC)LA Times biased for UCLA over USC in its sports section, but now, their blatant bias has expanded to the Sunday "California" section!

Today's April 10, 2011 article by Rick Rojas entitled "Quidditch still sweeping U.S. college scene" features a front page color picture of a UCLA student playing quidditch, and then another picture of Bruin teammates on the second page of the article.

Hidden in the article was the fact that USC also had a quidditch team, but there were no pictures of any Trojans.

Not even quidditch or Harry Potter can make the (UC)LA Times stop its bias!

Today's Tuesday 3/29/2011 UCLA Times Sports Page was unBEARable to read. UCLA players were featured on every other page.

Bruin Tyler Honeycutt hires an agent and declares for the NBA Draft. He gets a 6x8 color picture and an article on the front page.

When USC's Nick Vucevic hired an agent and declared for the NBA Draft last Friday 3/25/11, he got a small black and white file photo on a back page the next day and a small article. BIAS!

Another article about Bruin Chase Utley's injury appears on page C3. BIAS!

Page C5's headline reads, "Ayers needs to make speedy recovery". Reporter Sam Farmer's article contained 11 paragraphs about UCLA football players and 6 paragraphs about USC football players. BIAS!

Same C5 page has Chris Foster's half-page article about UCLA's Spring Football. BIAS!

Page C6 has the Ben Bloch Bruin article, "Lee will announce decision today". BIAS!

Finally, on page C10 in "THE DAY IN SPORTS", the UCLA Times reported that USC Nikola Vucevic was selected as an honorable mention on the Associated Press All-American Team. What an Honor! No Bruins were selected. Why wasn't Nikola's All-American selection reported on the front page? BIAS!

Trojan Ashley Corral made seven of eight three-point shots on her way to scoring a career-high 32 points! Where is a picture of Ashley?

The (UC)LA Times featured UCLA's one win and one loss in the second round of the NCAA women's tournament with stories written by reporter-on-location, Gary Klein and pictures. We even got to read about Bruin Coach Nikki Caldwell's constant whining about seeding and location. The Bruins were eliminated by 11th seed Gonzaga!

What a difference between the (UC)LA Times opinion of VCU today, Monday, 3/28/11 and two weeks ago when VCU beat USC in the NCAA play-in game.

Saturday, March 19, 2011 Viewpoint Letters were vicious. Words such as "crummy Virginia Commonwealth, USC can now hang a "First Four" banner in the Galen Center, and USC's football team could have scored more than 22 points against VCU in the first half." VICIOUS!

Surprisingly, the (UC)LA Times printed Wayne Muramatsu's letter which rightly criticized all the vicious letters that were printed the previous week about VCU and USC.

Now, the (UC)LA Times had to eat crow and publish Chris Dufresne's complimentary article and two pictures about VCU winning its way to the Final Four.

The vicious Viewpoint Letters should never have been published!

The BIAS against USC and VCU ended with embarrassment!

The Stanford Women beat North Carolina last night 72-65. That NCAA Women's game ended after 9:30 p.m. The (UC)LA Times published an article about the win in today's edition.

When the USC Men's Basketball Team beat Washington at Seattle 62-60 on Saturday March 5, 2011, the biased (UC)LA Times published no article, not even the score in their Sunday, March 6th edition.

Their excuse: The USC victory ended after 9:30 p.m.

Why is the 9:30 p.m. rule applied only to USC Men's Basketball?

The USC Women's Basketball Team (21-12) is still competing in the third round of the WNIT Tournament tonight at BYU. The Women of Troy are NOT DONE!

So, why was there no mention of USC's 6:00 p.m. game tonight? So, why was there no article?

Last Sunday, March 6, 2011, the BIASED (UC)LA Times refused to report that the USC Men's Basketball Team defeated the Washington Huskies 62-60 in Seattle. Their excuse was that "The USC-Washington Saturday night did not end until after this edition's deadline." The USC victory ended at 9:30 p.m.

Blatantly, the same (UC)LA Times just reported the Pac-10 Men's Basketball Tournament score of the Washington vs. Washington State game that ended at 10:30 p.m. last night. Reporters Ben Bolch (UCLA beat writer) and Baxter Holmes (USC beat writer) even published an article about the Washington 89-87 victory. Why was the Friday's edition's deadline extended for the Huskies and not for the Trojans last Sunday?

USC got NO article and No score reported on Sunday 3/6/11.

The (UC)LA Times is not only biased for UCLA over USC, but also Washington and Washington State over USC. Whose hometown is this anyway?

The Trojans upset the Washington Huskies last night in Seattle by the score of 62 to 60. The (UC)LA Times published NO article, NO picture and NO score of the USC victory in today's Sunday, 3/6/11 edition. Their excuse....the game "did not end until after this editions's deadline."

The Daily News published an article and a picture today of USC's Nikola Vucevic in reporter Tim Booth's article entitled "Trojans triumph against Huskies".

What about the UCLA football losses that ended after 9:30 p.m. last fall? The biased (UC)LA Times always features a front page picture and article of the Bruins, win or lose.

A UCLA football LOSS past the (UC)LA Times deadline time is published while a USC basketball WIN is NOT!

In this morning's (UC)LA Times ETC. section, USC's Steve Johnson was listed as earning a qualifying draw wild card in the upcoming BNP Paribas Open. Kudos to the Staff for mentioning that Steve is a Trojan!

Then, at the end of the same paragraph, the "same" (UC)LA Times mentioned that Maria Sanchez also earned a qualifying draw wild card in the same BNP Paribas Open. However, the Staff writers neglected to write that Maria is the #1 Women's Collegiate Player in the nation, and that she is a Trojan!

Is this bias or sexism, or both?

I can't believe that (UC)LA Times reporter Ben Bolch actually wrote that Bruin Freshman Joshua Smith was "wildly flapping his arms and then high-fiving teammates Reeves Nelson and Tyler Honeycutt in the final 30 seconds" of the UCLA men's basketball victory over rival USC. Mr. Bolch actually added fuel to the fire.

Didn't "cry-baby" Smith just complain on January 9th that USC players were high-fiving one another before the game ended, celebrating their victory over the Bruins.

What is the difference? NO Trojan complained about the Bruins celebrating early! The Trojans have more class!

Last year, when the USC Men's and Women's Water Polo Teams and the USC Men's Tennis Team won three NCAA Championships, they received the same MENIAL coverage. But when UCLA's women also won NCAA Championships last year in gymnastics and soft-ball, the same (UC)LA Times gave the Bruins separate articles and pictures. NO ETC.!

The front page headline in this morning's (UC)LA Times sports page written by reporter Ben Bolch's read, "Bruins barely put up a fight against Grizzlies". The UCLA Bruins Men's Basketball team lost 66-57 to Montana last night, and they received a front page article and headline. Meanwhile, the USC Trojans Men's Basketball team beat #19 Texas 73-56. No front page article or headline. The Trojans are relegated to page C-5.

USC center Nikola Vucevic scored a career high 24 points to spark the upset! The Trojans played spectacular defense and finished down the stretch!

So why does a UCLA defeat make the front page and a USC victory make page 5?

The answer, as usual, is as follows: The (UC)LA Times' BLASTED BRUIN BASKETBALL BIAS is BLATANT!

The biased (UC)LA Times has not written a word about this quest. However, last year the same biased (UC)LA Times wrote articles with pictures about the UCLA women's gymnastic and softball teams in their quest for NCAA Championships.

The NCAA ruled that Cam Newton's dad broke the rules when he sought money for his son's college recruitment. BUT, the NCAA ruled that Cam and Auburn did NOT know. Therefore, he is still eligible to play this weekend in the SEC title game.

The NCAA ruled that Reggie Bush's mom and dad broke the rules when they received money for their son's NFL recruitment. THEN, the NCAA threw the book at Reggie and USC because they said that Reggie and the coaches knew.

When is a rule a RULE? Why punish a Pac-10 school and let an SEC school off with no punishment?

Why am I writing this article in my UCLA blog? I am waiting to see how biased the (UC)LA Times is going to be about this incident. Will they support USC and the Pac-Ten? Will they condemn the NCAA, the SEC and Auburn?

(UC)LA Times reporter Eric Sondheimer is BIASED against USC! What else is new!

In his Monday, 11/1/10 High School Football article, entitled "Fathers divide time to see sons", he wrote about coaches Clay Matthews and Todd Gerhart. Both of these coaches travel to see their son's games even though they work full-time at Westlake Village Oaks Christian and Norco, respectfully. Clay Matthews's sons Clay III and Casey play for the Green Bay Packers and Oregon, respectfully. Todd Gerhart's sons Garth and Toby play for Arizona State and the Minnesota Vikings, respectfully. Mr. Sondheimer made sure to mention that Toby played for Stanford, but he never wrote that Clay played for USC.

Just more proof that the (UC)LA Times is biased against USC. When will it ever end?

There They Were in Living Color!

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the headline and two color pictures in the (UC)LA Tumes Wednesday, 10/13/2010 sports front page! Reporter Chris Foster wrote that Bruins "Morrell Presley and Josh Smith were suspended for UCLA's game at Oregon on Oct. 21 for 'a violation of team rules,'". Then, in living color, there were two pictures of the players. What! No cover-up! Normally, any Bruin indiscretions are put in a blurb at the very end of an article or they are never reported.

Then, on page C4, the (UC)LA Times actually published the A.P. article about former sports agent Josh Luch that stated that nine former UCLA players were paid by Luch in the early 1990's. Am I dreaming? Did they actually report that about UCLA?

Just wondering....will there be 20+ articles about these Bruins like the (UC)LA Times wrote this summer about USC?

Not only is the (UC)LA Times biased for UCLA over USC, but it is biased for UCLA over Stanford University also!

In this morning's 10/3/2010 paper on page C5, the biased (UC)LA Times listed UCLA above Stanford in the Pac-10 Standings. In the conference standings, USC, Stanford and UCLA are each 1-1. However, in the overall standings, USC and Stanford are each 4-1, while UCLA is 3-2. Both USC and Stanford should be listed above the Bruins.

Amazingly, the (UC)LA Times didn't list UCLA above USC!

Where was the picture? Where was the article in the (UC)LA Times?

I couldn't believe the last paragraph in T.J. Simers (UC)LA Times article today. The article, entitled, "Neuheisel is spared the Dorrell backlash", contained three paragraphs about "Uncle Pete". The last paragraph read, "Uncle Pete was even seen on TV shaking hands with the referee between plays, anything to get an edge, I guess. Once a Trojan, always a Trojan."

That last statement is ASININE!. During Pete Carroll's reign as USC Football's coach, it is documented that whomever the Trojans played, the opponent school was called for the FEWEST penalties in the USC game than in any other game they played all season long.

Always, the fewest penalties called when USC was the opponent....WHAT EDGE?

Further proof of the (UC)LA bias against USC!

After reading (UC)LA Times reporter Bill Plaschke's article entitled "GIVE IT UP, REGGIE" in this morning's 9/8/2010 sports page, I wondered, just who has a "sense of entitlement"? Is it all the USC football players and Coach Pete Carroll that Mr. Plaschke berated, mocked and ridiculed in his article? Or is it Bill Plaschke himself? Mr. Plaschke is still bitter that Coach Pete Carroll stepped between Joe McKnight and himself after the 2009 Emerald Bowl, when he tried to interview the running back. Why is Bill Plaschke ENTITLED to demand an interview? Why is he ENTITLED to constantly write demeaning articles about USC Football players and coaches? Why does he have such a "sense of entitlement"?

Answer: The (UC)LA Times fuels his "sense of entitlement" when it constantly publishes his garbage.

On Tuesday, August 10, 2010, Mr. Foster wrote that UCLA Coach Rick Neuheisel suspended tackle Mike Hariis for the first game for violating team rules. ONE PARAGRAPH hidden in the article.

This morning, August 12, 2010, Mr. Klein wrote that USC Coach Lane Kiffin suspended running back Dillon Baxter for the first game for violating team rules. FIFTEEN PARAGRAPHS! Color picture on the front page! Large 5x5 picture on C4!

Why is there such a coverage discrepancy about the two suspensions?

The (UC)LA Times is biased for UCLA over USC! They sensationalize any USC problems and COVER-Up any UCLA problems.

I am a retired Los Angeles USD teacher who taught for 37 years. I believe that Pete Carroll is an excellent teacher!

Evidently (UC)LA Times Editor Bill Dwyre disagrees. In his Saturday, July 31, 2010, article entitled "Carroll could have taught a lesson while learning one", Mr. Dwyre insinuated that Coach Carroll was not a teacher. Mr. Dwyre wrote, "John Wooden always said that people in his position were, first and foremost, teachers. Had Pete Carroll stayed around, faced the music and coached his gut out for a 4-7 record, he would have become one."

Not a teacher? Let me teach you a thing or two, Bill Dwyre. Excellent teachers have control, are great motivators and teach respect. I was fortunate enough to hear Pete Carroll speak six years ago at a seminar in Heritage Hall about his "A Better L.A. Foundation". Coach told the audience that the first thing he taught his players was to respect everyone the same way. RESPECT! Secondly, a student must be motivated to learn. Coach Carroll is a master at motivation! After observing him on the practice field, playing field, in Heritage Hall and at Monday Morning Quarterback, I have seen him in action. Every word out of his mouth is positive! MOTIVATION! Lastly, control. I remember the first Carroll coached game in the Rose Bowl. The losing Bruins, near the end of the game rushed to the USC sideline, ready to fight. I saw Coach Carroll point at every USC football player from one end of the line to the other. No USC player moved. There was no fight. That's CONTROL!

I have told Coach Pete Carroll in writing and in person that he is the best teacher I have ever seen!

The question is, will Bill Dwyre ever learn?

(UC)LA Times reporter Bill Plaschke criticized USC coach Lane Kiffin for wearing metal mirrored sunglasses on the stage at the Pac-10 Media Day in his Friday, July 30, 2010 article entitled "He's not so sure about this self-assured Trojans coach".

Sunglasses? Give me a break! Mr. Plaschke then wrote, "What is he hiding? Who is he hiding?" Just because Coach Kiffin was the only coach to wear sunglasses in the bright sunshine while the other nine Pac-10 coaches did not. Give me a break!

I wonder if Bill Plaschke was wise enough to wear sunglasses!

Pete Carroll is GONE to the Seattle Seahawks, but he is not FORGOTTEN by the (UC)LA Times! Reporter Paul Pringle's Wednesday 7/14/10 article entitled, "Carroll's rules violation could hurt USC's case" rehashed, yet again, all the sanctions against USC and Coach Carroll's hiring of an extra coach. The article was in the LATEXTRA section, not the Sports Page. Guess the (UC)LA times wants to reach as many readers as they can to tarnish USC's image even more! Will the sanctions be publicized every week for the next four years by (UC)LA Times articles?

When the UCLA Bruins were on their four year NCAA probation in 1997 to 2000 because of the Tanya Harding women's softball scandal, the (UC)LA Times didn't rehash their sanctions at all. They were FORGOTTEN!

Three Trojans left the USC Football team for their own personal reasons. The (UC)LA Times sensationalized their departure with big headlines and lengthy articles by reporter Gary Klein and essentially insinuated that NCAA sanctions were the reason.

Three Bruins were suspended (not kicked off!) the UCLA Football team because they were arrested for FELONY theft. The (UC)LA Times minimized their arrest with two small headlines and a few paragraphs by reporter Chris Foster. Will their indictment and their trial be sensationalized by the (UC)LA Times? Are you kidding? Not their beloved Bruins!

Just remember, the Bruins are the suspected FELONS, not the Trojans.

Just another example of the (UC)LA Times bias for UCLA over USC!

(UC)LA Times reporter Chris Foster breaks the story on 6/26/2010 about three UCLA Freshmen, Joshua Shirley, Shaquille Richardson and Paul Richardson, being arrested for FELONY burglary. Mr. Foster gets a SMALL headline and article. Will there ever be any follow-up articles on their trial?

(UC)LA Times reporter Gary Klein wrote the story on Wednesday, 7/7/2010 about incoming Freshman recruit Seantrel Henderson being released by USC from his national letter of intent. Mr. Klein gets a LARGE headline and article. All the undeserved, excessive NCAA sanctions are rehashed again. No Trojans committed a FELONY!

As usual, any UCLA arrests are given LITTLE press, so that the UCLA image is not hurt, while, USC's harsh, unfair, severe NCAA sanctions are given EXCESSIVE press, so that the USC image is ruined.

As usual, the (UC)LA Times BIAS for UCLA over USC is so apparent!

What coverage did the USC Women of Troy Water Polo Team get when they won their NCAA title on May 5, 2010? NO interviews! NO pictures and only nine paragraphs over two days buried in "THE DAY IN SPORTS" section!

What coverage did the USC Men's Tennis Team get when they won BACK-TO-BACK NCAA titles on May 25, 2010? NO interviews! NO pictures and only six paragraphs over four days buried in "THE DAY IN SPORTS" section!

All three spring NCAA titles are EQUAL!

Do I have to ask why the Lady Bruins deserve so much more coverage, interviews and pictures than the USC Women of Troy and the USC Men!

The USC Men's Tennis Team won back-to-back NCAA Championships on Tuesday, May 25, 2010. The Trojans defeated three teams ranked above them to win the title. (Ohio State, Virginia and Tennessee). The (UC)LA Times reported that outstanding accomplishment with a MERE mention of two paragraphs about the Trojan victory in their "DAY IN SPORTS" column.

Yesterday, the UCLA Women's Softball Team won a MERE victory, 10-2 over Louisiana Lafayette. The same (UC)LA Times reported that Super Regional victory with a large headline and an eleven paragraph article written by Melissa Rohlin. The Bruins have not even made it to the College World Series yet!

WHY?

UCLA Women are more important and deserve five times more coverage than USC Men!

Women's Softball must generate more interest and more professional revenue than Men's Tennis!

A MERE regional victory is better than Back-to-Back National Championships!

Congratulations to the USC Men's Tennis Team that defeated Tennessee 4-2 on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 to win the NCAA Championship back to back!

On Wednesday, May 26, 2010, the (UC)LA Times published only four paragraphs in "THE DAY IN SPORTS" reporting the victory on page C-8. Two paragraphs were about USC, one paragraph was about the Stanford Women winning the NCAA title and the other paragraph was all about Tennessee.

Here's the Unknown's SLAM! On the same day, Eric Sondheimer wrote an article that was seven times as long as USC's two paragraphs, about UCLA basketball unknowns David and Travis Wear. They are transferring from North Carolina to UCLA. So what!

Then, in this morning's Thursday, May 27, 2010 paper, reporter Chris Foster's article, about unknown UCLA tailback Milton Knox leaving UCLA, was twice as long as USC's two paragraphs. There was a picture of Knox also! Another Unknown's SLAM!

Why do three Unknown Bruins SLAM the NCAA 2010 Tennis Champion USC Trojans?

In Saturday's 5/1/10 article (on page 2 in the Sports Section, no less!), reporter Melissa Rohlin interviewed both UCLA track coaches Mike Maynard and Jeanette Bolden, but not USC's coach. Her article entitled and printed in 1/2 inch bold letters was "Pressure will be on Bruins in dual meet". Most of the article (seven paragraphs out of ten) was about UCLA, not USC. I did not write a blog complaining about the (UC)LA Times bias for UCLA over USC on Saturday. My line of thinking was, that after USC defeats the Bruin men and women in the dual meet on Saturday, then on Sunday Ms. Rohlin will report about the two USC victories and will surely include an interview of USC's "Track Coach of the Year", Ron Allice.

What a Difference a Day Makes!

The Trojan men defeated the Bruin men 96-17. The Women of Troy defeated the Lady Bruins 106-57 on Saturday. On Sunday 5/2/10, there was a dinky "blurb" hidden in "THE DAY IN SPORTS" that reported that the Trojans had won both meets.

Where was a separate article (on page 2) with a recap of top performers?

Where was an interview of USC Coach, Ron Allice?

Because her beloved Lady Bruins were defeated so soundly, Ms. Rohlin (or whoever wrote the blurb) didn't even report the Women of Troy's winning score.

Actually, there is NO DIFFERENCE between Saturday and Sunday.

The (UC)LA Times BIAS for UCLA over USC still lives on!

As I read (UC)LA Times reporter Paul Pringle's article in the California Section (not the Sports Section) this morning, I wondered why was the article ever written?

Mr. Pringle reported NO new "News" about Pete Carroll and USC. All he did was to "SENSATIONALIZE" rehashed information.

His source, an internal Pac-10 report, never even stated Pete Carroll's name. How is Mr. Pringle privy to an "INTERNAL" report in the first place? Mr. Pringle, himself, made the assumption that the coach named in the report was Pete Carroll. For all I know, the coach that was UN-named could be UCLA's "Slick" Rick!

Of course, the (UC)LA Times would never print a similar article about UCLA!

Spring football practice is here for UCLA and USC.

On 3/30/10, 3/31/10, 4/10/10, and 4/13/10, (UC)LA Times reporters Sam Farmer, Chris Foster and Baxter Holmes wrote articles about UCLA's spring practice, and EACH article was accompanied by pictures of Bruin players. On those same days, Gary Klein either wrote articles about USC's spring practce with NO accompanying pictures, no articles were even published, or if there was a Trojan picture, it was always smaller than the Bruin picture.

So, in answer to the question, "What is NO PICTURE Worth?"

USC Baseball lost to CAL 16-9. Although, Oregon State beat the Bruins 4-1 in baseball, so the USC loss doesn't sting as much!

USC Women's Tennis is tied for second after the first day in the PING/ASU Tournament.

If the Bruins had swept the Trojans, I'm sure that the (UC)LA Times would have reported that victory on Sunday or Monday.

After enjoying seeing the USC men's volleyball team sweep UCLA, 30-26, 30-21, and 30-23 last night at the Gelen Center, I anxiously read the Sunday, April 4, 2010 (UC)LA Times "THE DAY IN SPORTS" section for coverage of the victory. NOTHING! No score, no blurb, NOTHING! In fact, none of USC's men's or women's Saturday scores were reported, at all. Only, the UCLA scores...in tennis, baseball and softball were reported.

Here comes the DOUBLE BIAS! The (UC)LA Times did not report the men's volleyball score because their "beloved" Bruins LOST!

In this morning's article "The Day in Sports", reporter Eric Sondheimer was so biased for UCLA! He wrote about SIX Bruins and ZERO Trojans. It's true that UCLA beat USC at Dodger Stadium, 6 to 1, but it takes two teams to play the game. I'm sure if the Trojans had won, Sondheimer would have least mentioned some Bruin players.

First Slap: This morning's (UC)LA Times Sport's front page has an 8x6.5 inch color picture of Russell Westbrook. Westbrook scored 40 points in a LOSING effort for NBA Sophomores in the "Rookie Challenge" game.

Second Slap: Reporter Ben Bolch identified Westbrook in his article as a "former UCLA star".

Third Slap: Reporter Bolch, in the same "Rookies are up to challenge" article never mentioned that DeMar DeRozan, who won the "Dunk-In" against the Clipper's Eric Gordon, was a former USC star.

Fourth Slap: There is an 8x6.5 picture on page C-4 of Eric Gordon dunking the ball in a LOSING effort against former Trojan, DeMar DeRozan.

Why does the (UC)LA Times exalt L O S E R S and ignore winners?

On page C-10, there was a BLACK and WHITE picture of the USC men's basketball team, accompanied by Baxter Holmes's article about their win over Stanford.

Why does a UCLA LOSS get better coverage than a USC WIN?

However: USC basketball fans would love to see a COLOR picture of the Bruins twice a week, if it means that they LOST both games that week !!

In this morning's (UC)LA Times "PACIFIC 10 ROUNDUP" article, the (UC)LA Times published a table of the Pac-10 Men's Basketball Standings. USC, Arizona, Stanford and UCLA are listed in 4th to 7th place with a 3-3 record in conference wins and losses.

The UCLA biased (UC)LA Times incorrectly elevated the Bruins into 5th place in the table when they should have been listed in 7th place.

The table should read as follows:

4th Place: USC 3-3, overall 11-7
5th Place: Arizona 3-3, overall 9-9
6th Place: Stanford 3-3, overall 9-9
7th Place: UCLA 3-3, overall 8-10

After reading (UC)LA Times reporter Bill Plaschke's article this morning, entitled "USC takes action, waits to see reaction", I wondered why Mr. Plaschke kept bringing up Joe McKnight's car incident, in a basketball matter.

Mr. Plaschke must have long term memory loss. He has conveniently forgotten former UCLA Bruin Deshaun Foster. In 2000, Mr. Foster drove an infamous Ford Bronco that did not belong to him. What NCAA sanctions did the UCLA Football team suffer? N O N E ! So why is Mr. Plaschke persecuting Joe McKnight?

Currently, in basketball, Mr. Plaschke has not reprimanded UCLA Coach Ben Howland for allowing an arrested, alleged felon, Nikola Dragovic, to still remain on their basketball team. No athlete, currently at USC, has been arrested for a felony!

Why? Bill Plaschke loves UCLA and hates USC!

Just because Pete Carroll would not allow (UC)LA Times reporter Bill Plaschke to interview Joe McKnight after USC's Emerald Bowl victory over Boston College, Mr. Plaschke wrote a viscious "attack" article about the Trojans on Sunday, 12/27/09.

Mr. Plaschke used these accusatory words in his article: "deposition; broken the NCAA law; run interference with the NCAA; if Trojans had control; NCAA confusion; traveled on a cracked brick road; soiled; result in a lawsuit; reckless, foolish incident; if only they could find one (a strong athletic director); NCAA sanctions."

Don't give me any garbage about a woman scorned, Mr. Plaschke is a vindictive, SCORNED man!

After reading (UC)LA Times reporter Bill Plaschke's article entitled "USC playing with fire" on Sunday 12/20/09, I asked myself this question:

"Why is Mr. Plaschke treating Trojans Reggie Bush, O.J. Mayo and now, Joe McKnight like they are criminals?"

What crime did they commit? NONE!

Then I wondered:

"Why hasn't Mr. Plaschke attacked UCLA Men's Basketball Coach Ben Howland (like he attacked USC Coach Pete Carroll in his article) for allowing Nikola Dragovic to continue playing after Dragovic was arrested for felony assault?"

Assault is a REAL CRIME!

In today's (UC)LA Times, Gary Klein reported tht Dave Cutaia, the Pac-10's co-ordinator of football officials, suspended an official in the USC-Oregon State game for a "no" call on a Taylor Mays personal foul. So, NO is BAD!

But, Dave Cutaia did not suspend the official in the USC-Notre Dame game for a "wrong" call on a bogus Taylor Mays personal foul. So, WRONG is OKAY!

Then, what is RIGHT?

Both Pac-10 officials should have been suspended!

Evidently Bryce Yokomizo (10/24/09 (UC)LA Times Viewpoint Letters) didn't watch the same USC-Notre Dame game that I did. Upon further review, both personal foul penalties against USC's Taylor Mays were BOGUS!

The S.E.C. officials exalt Florida with penalties in the Gator's favor, while Pac-10 officials debase USC with bogus penalties against the Trojans.

The Trojans are up against 12 players, not 11, on every snap!

No reporter at the (UC)LA Times has brought up the fact that the Pac-10 officiating crew at the USC-Notre Dame last Saturday 10/17/09 blew at least three calls that affected the game. Foremost were two "no calls" against Notre Dame and one blatant "wrong" call against USC. Twice, the Irish tackled Joe McKnight and Matt Barkley out of bounds and were not whistled for a personal foul. Then, Trojan Taylor Mays was flagged with a personal foul for pushing a Notre Dame player after the player was out of bounds. The replay clearly shows that the Notre Dame player was inbounds when Taylor pushed him out of bounds to stop his forward progress.

Today the S.E.C. suspended the Florida-Arkansas officating crew that called a "bogus" personal foul on Arkansas near the end of the game last Saturday. That penalty affected the outcome of the game.

The S.E.C. got it RIGHT!

Why isn't the (UC)LA Times "blowing" the whistle on these sub-par, anti-USC Pac-10 officials?

It didn't happen to UCLA!

He's NOT My Prince Charming!

It was disgusting this morning that Bill Plaschke of the (UC)LA Times effused his love for new Bruin quarterback Kevin Prince in his front page article entitled, "Bruins think they've found their Prince".

But does Kevin Prince "Charming" really deserve a 6x9 color picture? That Prince picture is larger than any picture the (UC)LA Times has published of any USC football player this entire pre-season!

My "Prince" is USC's Taylor Mays! Taylor is personable and always gives everyone he meets a big smile and a big hug! In other words, he is "CHARMING"!

The BAD: This morning, (UC)LA Times sports reporter Paul Pringle wrote a "he said", "she said" ADVOCATE journalistic article filled with opinions, accusations and innuendoes. Mr. Pringle insinuates that Coach Pete Carroll broke NCAA rules by hiring special teams consultant Pete Rodriguez last season. More sensational garbage!

The UGLY: The (UC)LA Times chose to publish Frankie Telfort's three paragraph article in "THE DAY IN SPORTS' on page C-8 of the sports section. The GOOD! Last season The (UC)LA Times reporters always referred to USC's O.J. Mayo as "ONE and DONE" while UCLA's Kevin Love was never labeled as such!

This morning, (UC)LA Times reporter Chris Dufresne wrote that "USC and Floyd succumbed to a death "watch" penalty."

He than wrote that "More than two decades ago, Southern Methodist football received the "death penalty" for crimes committed against the NCAA."

What is Mr. Dufresne insinuating in his article? Does he proclaim that USC committed crimes against the NCAA? Does he hope that USC gets the "death penalty"?

In 1995, UCLA came closer to getting the "death penalty" than USC ever will. Wikipedia wrote this about Bruin Tanya Harding. "In 1995, Harding enrolled at UCLA for one trimester. She played on the squad that won the NCAA women's softball championships. She left the school after the tournament. However, due to recruiting and scholarship rule violations by UCLA, her participation was ruled ineligible by the NCAA, which disqualified UCLA and forced them to vacate the title."

UCLA was then placed on three years probation by the NCAA and was told, if another violation occurred during those three years, they (the Bruins) would receive the "death penalty".

In those three probation years, the (UC)LA Times reporters never mentioned that UCLA was on NCAA probation and never mentioned Tanya Harding's name again!

So why did Mr. Dufresne insinuate, unsubstantially, that USC will receive the "death penalty"?

In his (UC)LA Times article this morning entitled, "Only harm is to hoops, so far", Mr. Dufresne spewed out his own "HARM" to USC Men's Basketball.

Quotes from his article are as follows: "his (Tim Floyd) departure was inconsequential; it's (USC basketball) going to be over for several years; piecing the time line together is more fun that(n) Sudoku; poisoned; And here comes the almost comical question: Who wants to coach USC basketball?; (Hire) Pittsburgh Coach Jamie Dixon: Last time anyone checked, he was smart-and nobody could want to get back to his home state this badly; inherit the specter; Turn out the lights at Galen Center; and it's only USC basketball being asked to take a long walk in a dark alley."

DOOM and GLOOM! BULLY them! Pour salt in their wounds! Kick them when they're down! Hit them below the belt! DEGRADE the remaining players on the USC team!

Now I know why the (UC)LA Times is biased for UCLA over USC!

It is so obvious after reading Lance Pugmire's "NCAA seeks documents in inquiry of recruit Sidney" article this morning.

I quote Mr. Pugmire's article as follows: "A UCLA source, requiring anonymity because college representatives are not allowed to speak about recruits, said the school was concerned about how the family could afford to live in such a home." ($4,000 to $5,000 a month)

Didn't UCLA just committ an NCAA infraction? College representatives are not allowed to speak about recruits! A UCLA representative gave Lance Pugmire private information about a recruit!

Following NCAA rules, USC gave Lance Pugmire gave no such information to the (UC)LA Times!

What reporter is going to cut off the hand that feeds him?

That is why the (UC)LA Times is biased for UCLA over USC!

UCLA football defensive back E.J. Woods was arrested and charged with two counts of sexual battery and four counts of battery on March 28, 2009. His pretrial hearing was continued to June 24th. (UC)LA Times reporter Chris Foster wrote a mere 19 word blurb on page C-8 today, about this Bruin who is still on the football team.

This same (UC)LA Times reporter Chris Foster also wrote a "sensationalized" 19 paragraph article today about USC Coach Tim Floyd on page C-5. Naturally, former Trojan O.J. Mayo is mentioned, as well as the NCAA inquiry. This is the third article this week by the (UC)LA Times insinuating that USC is guilty of infractions.

Who is the real criminal here? Not Coach Floyd or O.J. Mayo!

So WHY did the (UC)LA Times print Paul Pringle's special report about USC on the front page this morning?

Because.....

1. It was a SLOW news day.

2. Are SCORNED because USC has stated "No Comment" to its reporters. WHY are UCLA's "No Comments" about any investigations honored, while USC's are portrayed as a cover-up?

3. Are REHASHING "old" news and passing it off as "new" news.

4. Are not RESPECTING USC's correct stance on the NCAA rules that Mr. Pringle, himself, quoted in his article this morning: "NCAA bylaws forbid schools from publicly disclosing information from the association's investigations until the probes are complete".

5. Are UTILIZING "Advocate Journalism" techniques in printing defamatory words about USC in its article: "scant, bizarre, lumbering, jock-centric campus, modest academic ambitions, fattened the university endowment, well-oiled revenue engine, and guard bolted for the NBA" (well, so did UCLA's Kevin Love!).

6. Are BELIEVING the word of two ex-convicts as reputable!

WHY????

Because the (UC)LA Times covers up any UCLA investigations in its back pages and sensationalizes all of USC's on its front page!

When the UCLA Athletic Department states "No Comment" to (UC)LA Times reporters, there is nothing else written about any NCAA probe until the findings are made public.

A Bruin "No Comment" means INNOCENT until proven guilty.

When the USC Athletic Department states the same "No Comment" to (UC)LA Times reporters, the reporters, such as Chris Foster did this morning, sensationalize any NCAA probe. Foster used inflammatory words such as "free fall, spector and spectacular" in his article this morning.

Today's "UCLA is eliminated in softball" headline is TWICE as large and is the LEAD headline of the "The Day in Sports" page, as compared to the smaller headline on Wednesday, 5/20/09 that the USC Men received in winning its 17th NCAA Tennis Team title.

This morning the (UC)LA Times gave UCLA's Maria Jose Uribe the headline, "UCLA's Uribe has two-shot lead", and an article about her lead in the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships after two days of competition.

Well, after three days in the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships, USC's Jennifer Song is now atop the leaderboard by two strokes over Purdue's Maria Hernandez and Bruin Maria Jose Uribe.

In the team competition, the USC Women of Troy are in first place by 1 stroke over ASU and by 3 strokes over UCLA.

Professional women's softball players make? CENTS?

So, why did the (UC)LA Times reporter Chris Foster write numerous headline articles about UCLA's Women's Softball Team before and after their first round NCAA games last weekend? The Bruins are just in the Super-Regionals. They haven't even made it to the Softball World Series.

Then, the same (UC)LA Times has not written any separate articles (let alone with a headline) about the USC Men's Tennis Team, who is playing for its 17th Title in today's NCAA Men's Tennis Championship, after defeating Texas 4-1 in the semi-finals yesterday. This morning the (UC)LA Times only put a 34 word, two-paragraph blurb in the "ETC." section of "The Day in Sports" about USC's victory. The third paragraph of the blurb mentions UCLA losing to Ohio State 4-3 in the other semi-final.

No USC headline article. No players or coaches interviews. NOTHING!

This inverse coverage of sport's popularity is DUAL BIAS!!!

Did O.J. get a two page article and a picture praising his illustrious playing days at USC in the (UC)LA Times this morning? NO!

The (UC)LA Times only gave the two page article and picture to former Bruin, Kevin Love, when he scored just 2 points and lost to the L.A. Lakers in December 2008.

What did O.J. get? A ten word blurb by Mike Bresnahan..."Former USC star O.J. Mayo had 20 points for the Grizzlies".

According to (UC)LA Times reporter Chris Foster's article on Tuesday, 4/7/09, UCLA defensive back E.J. Woods entered "a plea of not guilty on four charges of sexual battery and two charges of battery" in a Los Angeles court.

What happened to the usual UCLA's athlete's plea of "No Contest"?

This "Not Guilty" plea will allow Mr. Foster to follow the hearing and write several articles about the results of each court day.....OR.....NOT!

The usual Bruin cover-up by a biased (UC)LA Times will occur!

The shocker was that Arizona wanted USC's basketball coach."

My new closing statement is as follows:

The shocker was that Arizona did NOT want UCLA's basketball coach.

I noticed and I care! In today's(UC)LA Times High School Basketball article on page C15, it was unbelievably there in black and white.

Three future basketball Trojans, Gary Franklin Jr., Renardo Sidney and Derrick Williams, were chosen to "The Times' All-Star Team". While only one future Bruin, Tyler Lamb, was chosen.

Three to one!

It must have been so difficult for Bruin beat writer Ben Bolch to choose the All-Star Team this year!

I'm still waiting until this same (UC)LA Times reporter Lance Pugmire writes a comprable article with a headline about UCLA football player E.J. Woods. Woods has been charged with two counts of sexual battery and four counts of battery. Will the UCLA Athletic Department again cite privacy matters? NO COMMENT as always? Will Lance Pugmire even go to Woods' trial? Or, will there be the usual Bruin cover up?

What a poignant (UC)LA Times article about Cal Berkeley Women's Basketball team coach, Joanne Boyle's recovery from a brain hemorrhage. My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting Coach Boyle last weekend. We were hosts for the Cal team at the NCAA Women's Tournament at the USC Galen Center. After reading the article this morning entitled "Boyle, Cal move ahead, I want to compliment Robyn Norwood on her excellent journalism. Her article about Coach Boyle's "miracle" recovery was so "heart-warming"!

Today's (UC)LA Times front page color picture rightfully shows USC's Taj Gibson, Daniel Hackett and Dwight Lewis celebrating USC's Pac-10 Tournament Championship win over ASU, but why is eliminated UCLA mentioned in the front page caption?

Because, the (UC)LA Times is biased for non-winner UCLA over CHAMPION...USC!

The Minnesota Timberwolves lost to the Lakers last night 110 to 90. (UC)LA Times reporter Mike Bresnahan gave former Bruin Kevin Love his "just deserts"! Love got a quarter size picture and caption on page C4, then a "Former UCLA star Kevin Love had 18 points and 14 rebounds, but he was also indicative of Minnesota's shooting woes, making only five of 17 shots" paragraph on page C5.

Four days earlier, when the Memphis Grizzlies lost to the Lakers, the same UCLA biased (UC)LA Times reporter Mike Bresnahan did not even mention former Trojan O.J. Mayo's name anywhere in his article or his picture caption.

NO "just deserts" for O.J. or USC!!!!

Mayo tomorrow in the (UC)LA Times Sports Page. When the Minnesota Timberwolves lost to the Lakers on September 14, 2008, Mark Heisler published a "glowing" article about former Bruin Kevin Love. Remember his "best outlet pass of any N.B.A. player ever" description about Love, who had played only 23 games thus far?

Win or lose, I expect a comprable "luminous" article and front page picture about former Trojan O.J. Mayo tomorrow!
